Paşaeli 6N Karasakız Merlot
Paşaeli 6N Karasakız Merlot Red Wine is blend of Karasakız and Merlot grapes. Karasakız variety is native to north Ida Mount (Kaz Dağları), close to the site of ancient Troy. Grown in a single vineyard that lies at 500 metres elevation, it is fermented with native yeast only. There is a very slight percentage of Merlot in the wine. The grapes were handpicked, destemmed and crushed. The wine was made with native yeast only. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tank with skin contact of 3 weeks with pumping overs and punch downs. The wine was barrel-aged for 6 months in 2- and 3-years old French and American oak; to have a touch of oak for complexity. Lightish ruby-red colour. The nose is delightful with aromas of sweet red cherry, cranberry, and dry fig. The distinct nose carries over onto the palate with sweet cherry red fruit, sour cherry freshness with great acidity and tannins that are compact yet gentle. Hugely distinctive, and delicious with a long spicy finish. Best served very slightly chilled.

Paşaeli Winery
Paşaeli, founded by Seyit Karagözoğlu in 2000, was a real discovery at the recent Wines of Turkey tasting in London with wines from both international and indigenous varieties showing real personality. This is a blend of both; 18% Merlot with 82% Karasakız (which translates as ‘black chewing gum’). There are only 50 hectares of the latter in the whole of Turkey, planted near the ruins of Troy at an altitude of 550 metres on Mount Ida. It is aged for six months in French and US oak. The medium bodied palate combines sour cherry, rosehip and balsamic vinegar flavours alongside a tart, lip-smacking acidity and a forest-floor finish.
Karasakız
In 2008, Paşaeli planted a vineyard with the varietal Karasakız at an altitude of 2,000 feet. The Karasakız variety is native to Kaz Dağları (Mount Ida), which is close to the ruins of ancient Troy in the northern Aegean wine-growing region. 6N is a blend made predominantly from the indigenous grape Karasakız, along with a splash of Merlot. Fermented naturally with only native yeast, “6N” has wafting aromas of red fruits – cranberries, sweet red cherries and pomegranate, with some fresh spice.
