ÖKÜZGÖZÜ

Öküzgözü is a grape variety and a Turkish wine produced from this grape. It’s name means Ox’s eye after the big, round and dark colored grains and is grown in Eastern Anatolia, specifially in the provinces of Elazig and Malatya located on the basin of Euphrates River. It is one of the two native grape varieties of Elazığ province (the other one is Boğazkere), located on the Anatolian plateau at the north of the Taurus Mountains. The various sources of the Euphrates River in this region soften the normally harsh climate of Eastern Turkey. Öküzgözü gives full bodied, lasting wines with light tannins which are apte to ageing. Black mulberry, ripe cherry, violet and raspberry flavours are dominant.
